“I aim to represent the landscape in a way that doesn't merely reflect but also enhances the significant aspects of a certain place. I focus on wilderness: barren moorlands, rough hill farms, dense forests and  explore the emptiness, space, light and colour of these places.

I seek out elements of the landscape and weatherscape which offer certain structural possibilities, and am particularly drawn to scenes with a pronounced linear axis which I use as the compositional basis of my work.

My aim is to capture the form and the feel of the landscape and to produce a painting that is in itself an object of painterly beauty and interest.  I have a great interest in both the natural world and its geology and this is integral to my observations and the resultant painting.”
