“My work focuses on the Scottish landscape. It surrounds me, it is where I live and where I grew up; it is intrinsic to the person I am. I am attracted to certain elements of the landscape: the light, the colours, the forms of the geology and the vegetation.

Much of my work is focused on transitional areas of the landscape: the shift between agriculture and wilderness, the edge of forestry, the geological fault zones.

The commercial forestry plantations that bestride the Scottish landscape appear again and again in my work - bold yet obscure signifiers of man’s impact on the land, impositions on the wilderness yet a curious kind of hermetic wilderness in themselves.

The landscape is defined by its geology and this is another theme to which I return often. My most recent work is centred on the Highland Boundary Fault, a dramatic transition zone that sits behind my home in Perthshire.
